Simple ways your family can bless others this festive season

Christmas is one of our favourite times of the year in Discovery Kids, because it’s a season of giving. Everyone seems to be a little more generous and charitable around Christmas.

Although the spirit of giving can abound this time of year, “me-ism” can quickly sneak in if we’re not careful. As much as we want our children to get excited about all of the festivities of Christmas, we also want to teach them to focus their hearts and minds outward on others—just as Jesus Himself did.

So, what better way to teach your children the importance of giving than by helping them bless others? If you’re looking for ways to help your children focus on others this Christmas, here are 10 simple ideas. Try one, two, or even all of them!

1. Give handmade gifts to friends, family, and neighbours.
2. Make cards for people in the hospital, or those serving in the emergency services.
3. Bake Christmas cookies or sweet treats for your neighbours.
4. Help decorate a friend’s home or Christmas tree.
5. Give gifts to those in need – consider giving to a local toy drive or food bank.
6. Volunteer at a soup kitchen or homeless shelter.
7. Visit a nursing home and bring holiday cheer to the residents.
8. Go carolling in your neighbourhood or at a local nursing home.
9. Cook a meal for a family in need.
10. Collect and donate coats, hats, gloves, and scarves.

If you’re looking for ways to help your children bless others this Christmas, consider these ten ideas. From volunteering at a local soup kitchen to making cards for shut-ins, there are plenty of opportunities to spread holiday cheer. And not only will your children be bringing joy to others, but they’ll also be growing in their faith.
So, get started today and let your children experience the joy of blessing others this Christmas season.
