Galatians – A Revelation Of Christ For The Unlikely

About This Talk

You never know who Jesus is going to choose to tell other people about Him. The Apostle Paul would have been the last person on anyone's list for this task. But Jesus chose him and appointed him to preach the Good News to those who were outside of the Jewish Faith, as well as the Jewish people themselves. Find out what a radical difference this made and the challenges he faced in this message.

Points To Ponder…

The Gospel is not a dream

The Gospel is not man-made

The Gospel agrees with the facts

Galatians 5:1

The Apostle Paul, a zealous persecutor turned courageous pioneer, with his church planting team, were taking the message of Jesus far beyond the confines of Jerusalem’s walls. Their journey brought them to a region known as Galatia, modern-day Turkey, where people in towns and cities such as Pisidian Antioch, Iconium, Lystra and Derbe enthusiastically responded to the Gospel.

Now a few years later, Paul hears that these believers had fallen captive to a pernicious teaching that was creating havoc right across the early church. Simply put, Christ is not enough. Followers of the way were obligated to observe the markers of Judaism, including circumcision, kosher food laws and the Sabbath. These were to be prerequisites for fellowship in the church, even for these new followers of Jesus.

Paul’s letter to the churches in Galatia is often blunt and sometimes indignant, and often one is caused to wince and the straight-talking of the Apostle to his brothers and sisters. For Paul, the very gospel is at stake; Christ is enough. Addition to Christ subtracts Christ. Whatever one thinks needs to be added will result in questioning the adequacy of Christ.

‘Christ is enough’ is the maxim. Easier to say than to live by. That’s why we have Galatians!
