In this Community Spotlight, we’re thrilled to share the story of Nyelah, a cherished member of the MKCC family since July 2022. Nyelah has found a unique and powerful way to serve both within our church community and beyond its walls. Her commitment to volunteering at Woodhill Prison and her involvement in the chapel services there offer a profound example of faith in action.

Q: Nyelah, can you tell us a bit about your role and what you do?

Nyelah: Of course! At MKCC, I’m part of the First Impressions team and the Guest Lounge, creating welcoming experiences for everyone who comes through our doors. Since May 2023, I’ve also been volunteering at Woodhill Prison, particularly serving in the chapel during Sunday services. It’s there that I feel a deep calling to comfort and encourage the inmates, sharing scripture, wisdom, and, most importantly, a listening ear.

Q: That sounds incredibly rewarding. What inspired you to start volunteering at the prison?

Nyelah: I felt called to serve there. My experiences at the prison have enriched my life in countless ways. Whether it’s through prayer, sharing scripture, or just being there to listen, I’m continually led by the Holy Spirit to offer hope and comfort. There’s a particular joy in witnessing the direct impact of this ministry, like seeing prayers answered for parole or encouraging a fellow believer to channel his struggles into songwriting.

Q: Why is this service important to you?

Nyelah: Serving in this way brings me immense joy and a sense of purpose. It’s about more than just giving my time; it’s about using the spiritual gifts God has given me to support and uplift others. This service aligns with Christ’s call to love and serve one another, allowing me to reflect His light in the darker corners of our world. Through this journey, I’ve discovered more about who I am, who God is, and the incredible work He’s doing in the lives of others. It’s an honour to be a vessel for His love and to be part of a larger spiritual family, contributing to God’s cosmic plan.

Over to you

Nyelah’s story is a testament to the transformative power of service and the impact it can have on both the giver and the receiver. Her dedication to serving God by ministering to those in need is a shining example of living out our values of ‘Given to Generosity,’ ‘Saved to Serve,’ and ‘Committed to Community.’
