Including Discovery Kids
The tradition of Advent Calendar dates back to the mid-19th century when German Protestants made chalk marks on doors or lit candles to count the days leading up to Christmas. Today, most Advent calendars include paper doors that open to reveal an image for each day in December through to Christmas Day. But most children in this generation would really expect to find a small chocolate treat to be waiting for them behind the little door. It would seem that we all expect gifts at Christmas.
This year we are asking you to join others and take part in the Milton Keynes Foodbank Reverse Advent initiative. Before we open our Christmas Advent calendars on the 1st December, we are asking that you #reverseadvent and give a small gift each day in November.
Get a small box, maybe even decorate it with some Christmas paper, and each day add one item from the MK Food Bank shopping list throughout the month of November. Then bring the boxes containing your 30 items back to MKCC before the 7th December.
Last year 100 MKCC families got involved and MK Foodbank received 3,000 food items for their clients in time for Christmas. This year we distributed 200 Boxes and more people took away the MK Food Bank Shopping list and will use their own box.
Send us an email to say you are joining us to end hunger at Christmas through #reverseadvent
