Jesus has invited us to be involved in the world's greatest initiative - the planet's biggest project! We’re called to share the Good News of the Gospel with every tribe, tongue, and nation.
This year our “All In Mission” vision provides incredible opportunities for you to invest in making Jesus known across the world. Last weekend, I shared a short message during our services specifically about this vision, as part of this year’s ‘All In Campaign’. I want to make sure everyone gets to see it, so feel free to catch up on the video right now.
I also wanted to share a couple of further thoughts that have shaped my vision for this year’s Mission Fund.
Last week, I was reading again about William Carey, a missionary who was born only a few miles north of Milton Keynes – in the village of Paulerspury. Establishing the Baptist Missionary Society, Carey later became known as the ‘father of modern missions’ as new missionaries were inspired, trained and funded to take the Gospel across the globe.
William likened his mission to a miner, penetrating into a deep mine which had never been explored, with no one to guide. He said to his friends and church, “I will go down, if you will hold the rope”.
John Ryland, Co-Founder of the Missionary Society reported: “He took an oath from each of us, at the mouth of the pit, to this effect—that while we lived, we should never let go of the rope.”
Over 200 years later, our church here in Milton Keynes are still ‘holding the rope’ for our partners in the same country that William Carey first blazed the trail in 1792, and where he dedicated his life.
We support Sunitha Johnson to rescue orphans from a life of slavery in slate quarries, providing them with care and education. We are strengthening her as she leads a network of small communities of faith in hard to reach villages.
We are ‘holding the rope’ for Pastor Joe and the team at India Gospel Mission, to work among the less privileged citizens of India without discrimination to caste, creed, or colour, with a vision of changing lives.
This includes three Children’s Homes, 12 Tuition Centres, Outreach Programmes with the elderly and marginalised communities, Food Programmes, support for two leprosy colonies, as well as over 30 churches and a Bible School, training students to take the Good News of Jesus to towns and villages hostile to the Gospel.
Much like William Carey’s strategy in India, a couple of centuries ago LightForce International, with the help of our church here in Milton Keynes, secured a base from which it would deliver the Good News of Jesus to the poor and practical help to those in need. We are continuing to 'hold the rope' as LightForce provides:
We were ‘holding the rope’ for Ugandan Pastors Bruno and Mary in 2017 when they planted Victory Church in a rural community. The church has become a centre for activity in the community providing practical resources, childcare, school sponsorship and training for church leaders. This year we will continue to stand with them as they reach out to their community.
This year, we want to continue holding the rope for our partners across the globe. To do this, we’re asking for £60,000 through our All In Mission Fund, so that we can take the light of the Gospel deep into the unreached peoples of this world.
So, be “All In” as we come together to contribute what we can in our effort and our energy to make a difference in people’s lives. Through your partnership, I’m believing that the worship of new Christians will be heard in the throne room of Heaven!
